Just about had it
October 18th, 2012
Well, I’ve just about had it with Apple. After waiting 3 weeks for a review, the app got rejected because it didn’t implement sandboxing… Which can only be implemented under xcode 4… iDentify, very simply, does. not. compile. under xcode 4. xcode 4 does not include the libraries needed in order to support anything less than OS X 10.7… identify works all the way back to 10.5 after spending the day trying to get entitlements to work anyways… I go to resubmit it and find there is no way to resubmit the app. i cant reject my binary, I can’t submit a new version, I can’t do a damn thing. This is freaking ridiculous.

That stinks. Thanks for the hard work. Maybe it’s time to go back outside the App store? Easy for me to say as I have both kinds of license.
Bummer. I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble. Your product is great and as someone moving my entire, very large library into iTunes, indispensable. I hope you can work things out and keep this great tool moving forward. Thanks for all your work, from an appreciative user!
I definitely feel your pain. Apple can be very frustrating for a developer.
I use another app (SmartSleep) that could not be updated within the Mac App Store due to restrictions regarding apps and Administrative privileges. That author sidestepped the problem for his users by allowing his wed-downloaded version of the software to use the Mac App Store software registration to authenticate it’s software licensing. I know that this doesn’t help with your Apple issues, but it would allow you to pass on the full featured updates to your App Store customers.
Anyway, however you deal with this issue, I want to express how useful your program is to me. Please endure the headaches if you can, and thanks again.
If they don’t approve the update I finally was able to send them, there will be no further updates until iDentify 3.
Do you have a rough timeline for iDentify 3?
I don’t understand what it is Apple is trying to do. Their approval process is definitely not in the best interest of the users. I purchased my copy through the Mac App Store, but now am wishing I had purchased it through MacUpdate. Apple better not cost me getting continued updates for a great product. Like imahawki, I am moving all my movies, tv shows, and music to iTunes, so I can watch / listen anytime with Apple tv. (If anyone can recommend a better ripper than Pavtube, please let me know.) Thanks for developing such a great product. I couldn’t do it without iDentify.
I know it sucks, however… You are already building (or were, if I remember correctly) differently for App Store and Direct. How about a build with XC4 w/ OS X 10.7, for the Store? On there, it would be interesting to have it from OS X 10.6+, but OS X 10.7+ won’t hurt much and new users through store can still get the updates. OS X 10.5 simply didn’t have the store anyway.
Maybe I’m being silly, or maybe it’s already your plan for iD3.
