this isn’t a 502 error but i’d really like a response to it.

A covert a lot of MKVs to MP4s using MKV2MP4 (also on app store). They often never saveafter i tag with iDentify. It works fine but as soon as you press save nothing happens and the file remains as is. Definitely not a permissions issue. What can i do?

    love the app!

this is the error that occurs:

ReadProperties: atom ‘text’ is too small; overrun at property: displayFlags (../src/mp4atom.cpp,389)
    2012-06-07 09:11:14.828 iDentify[1507:c82b] 0: Could not open ‘/Users/Corey/Downloads/Modern Family – Season 1-2 Complete 480p x264-BoB/Modern.Family.S02E03..m4v’… aborting because (null)

Sounds to me like the program you are using to convert is adding in bad atoms that mp4v2 tagging engine doesn’t know how to handle, so it thinks the files are bad. I’d highly recommend using handbrake to convert instead to avoid this issue.
I recall someone mentioning they had a similar error and used the mp4v2 command line tools with optimize on to rewrite the files to remove the atoms, thus solving the issue, but I don’t have more details than that.

I want to say I love this app!!!! would it be possible to add a TagChimp code box like the IMDB code box? Just for those times a show isn’t named correctly and the user can input the TagChimp code and Rescan the item.
Again thank you , thank you, thank you for this app. It’s the best $10 I’ve spent in a long, long time.

Just bought the App Store version and it works great. Just two small questions/requests?

    1. It doesn’t /move/ the file into iTunes but copies it. Would it be possible to just have it move the completed file to the “~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Automatically Add to iTunes” folder to prevent creating an extra copy?

    2. It’d be great to be able to set up default images for some shows. The ones in TVDB are nice, but they’re all rectangular but the AppleTV and iTunes use square images. It’d be really cool – but more work of course – to have a folder with TV show images in it that were checked before using the TVDB images.

Okay. I have updated the app using the ‘Update’ button in the Mac App Store. However, after updating, this app still has the ‘Update’ button next to it, as if it still needs updating. “About Identify” still reports the build as 501. In an attempt to resolve this, I deleted Identify from the Applications folder and installed it fresh from the Mac App Store. This did not resolve the problem. It still reports as build 501 and still has the ‘Update’ button available.

    Any thoughts?

I love this app. However, I’m having a problem updating it to 502. I have 501 right now and when I try and update it from the App Store it shows the update being there. When I download it and it installs Identify still shows 501. Is anyone else having this problem?

Request an update for the SD/HD file renaming. Can it be SD / 720 / 1080 instead? Now that there are three different file sizes it would be nice to have it automatically rename accordingly. Maybe instead of SD/720/1080 it could be 480/720/1080 to more accurately represent the quality; but either way, something like this would be useful.

I thought I was running 502 but realized that it was 501 (my purchase was through the appstore). The application shows on the purchase tab with an “UPDATE” button next to it, but not on the “UPDATES” page. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no joy. This isn’t killing me as 501 is working fine for me, just wanted to make sure I have the latest version.

By the way this program has been a life-saver, use it everyday while I clean up video library… Thanks for all your hard work!

I thought I could use this software to tag my avi / mkv video files. I
get “unsupported file type” messages. Cannot use the software at all.
Please refund or explain what I am doing wrong.

Is there a way to force Identity to populate metadata if the auto lookup fails but you have the IMDB or (even better) the TVDB URL / ID.
For example : Auto lookup misses
    http://thetvdb.com/index.php?tab=episode&seriesid=80270&seasonid=27786&id=4076386

It’s a prequel in between series 4 and 5. But clearly the Meta data is available.

Adding the IMDB code and rescanning doesn’t seem to help.

I have the exact same issue as the guy above, it will not update properly. Secondly a feature I would really like is for chapter image preview and UK ratings. Currently I have to export to subler to get the images. Finally UK film certifications would be a much wanted option.

Hello, same as MrMr, Mountain Lion upgrade from App store will not install ver 502 even after uninstalling ver 501. Keeps reverting to 501.

I have the exact problem. I have uninstalled/reinstalled and still it does this to me. I posted a comment to this on July 19, 2012 here and it still shows “Your comment is awaiting moderation”.
I have yet to find a solution to this.

    Hi
I am very new to this, and indeed a new Mac convert, hence uninformed question?

I have data already in I Tunes Movies and i want to add an age rating so i will be able to ensure the children are viewing age specific movies suitable for them
I use I SOft DVD Ripper which is pretty good i must say apart from obviously no data being populated. i have been merrily been adding from IMDB and cover pics from Amazon to ensure it all looks nice, but the main stumbling block is the age restriction, so i can utilise the Password protect within iTunes ands restrict kids access
Any ideas? i dont really want to start all over again as i have the M4V files already

    help???

Try turning off the “copy files to iTunes library in the iTunes preferences. As long as iTunes is running, it will watch the file and update itself whenever the file is moved, or just turn off the add to iTunes option and move the files to the add to iTunes folder when you are done tagging. Moving the files just isn’t in the cards right now, nor is adding a new artwork lookup source for square images.

I forgot to update the build number in identify before submitting to the App Store. Haven’t fixed it yet as that was the only thing I had to fix. I’ll have a new version up pretty soon. Have a new feature that needs some testing.

IDentify can add the MPAA ratings, which, I believe you can use to limit access to items above a specific rating in the parental controls.

Chapter images won’t likely happen until iDentify 3.
I also know of no place to automate the addition of these images.

Uk film certifications are available in the ratings drop down. Our data sources just don’t provide them for other countries to my knowledge.

Avi and mkv files do not support metadata. They are also not supported file types in iTunes. Because they can not contain metadata, they are not supported by identify. You will need to convert them to mp4 format first.

As has been stated numerous times in many places, imdb codes do nothing for tv series. If the show occurs between two seasons, it is likely listed as a “special” in the tvdb. To access specials, set the season to 0, and the episode number corresponding to the entry in the tvdb. And click rescan. After the lookup is done, prior to saving the file, you can change the season number and episode number to whatever you want so it appears in the correct chronological order in iTunes or n your iDevice.
